B. 2000—————
Daniel Bailey is a contemporary realist painter from coastal Massachusetts whose work draws on firsthand exploration of the American west, northeast, and northern Canada — including over 1,000 miles traveled by canoe through the Canadian wilderness.
Rooted in the tradition of American landscape painting and influenced by the Tonalist movement and contemporary impressionists, Bailey's oil paintings fall between realism and impression. Working with expressive brushwork and a palette knife, he builds atmospheric paintings that exaggerate light and color to evoke wonder, nostalgia, and optimism — a style he calls romantic realism.
"I keep in mind memories of exploring the forest as a child, when the world buzzed with magic and wonder. If I'm lucky, some of that magic will be captured in my paintings."
Bailey's original oil paintings are represented by A Sense of Place Gallery, Sheldon Fine Art, Folly Cove Fine Art, and The Sportsman's Gallery, and his work was featured in Southwest Art Magazine's 21 Under 31: Young Artists to Watch (2025).
